Small Country Garden, Sissinghurst
An artist’s garden
A secret garden in the middle of a vibrant village in Kent.
This former driveway has been converted into a hidden, secret garden in the heart of a popular village in Kent. At the heart of this design is the placement of three sculptures by Helen Sinclair; the design leads the visitor around the garden, discovering each piece along the way. Multi-stemmed Amelanchier lamarckii provide structure and year-round interest. Planting consists mainly of shades of green and varying textures, creating a very gentle contemporary feel which remains in keeping with the historic nature and location of the house.
A terrace of herringbone brick pavers provides a place for small children to ride tricycles, whilst a ‘new’ reclaimed brick wall and bespoke oak gate create the impression from the roadside view that this is merely the entrance to a potting shed.
