The Perennial Garden, RHS Chelsea Flower Show 2014
sunrise, sunset
A garden for Perennial. Award-winning garden at RHS Chelsea Flower Show.
This award-winning garden provides a place for people to come in and use, a place to sit and enjoy the planting. The Gardeners’ Royal Benevolent Society Perennial tasked Jo Thompson Landscape & Garden Design with designing a public garden which showcased elements from their gardens at York Gate and Fullers Mill. A simple series of curving intersecting accessible paths are edged with gabion retaining walls.
Sculptures by Rachel Ducker and Walter Bailey energise the space, whilst curving oak benches by Gaze Burvill provide welcome respite. Planting is inspired by the well-loved colours of sunrise and sunset: purple Allium ‘Purple Sensation’, orange Geum ‘Totally Tangerine’, and pink Digitalis ‘Sutton’s Apricot’ are just some of the selections which combine to create a welcoming space in the heart of the Royal Hospital grounds. One of two gardens designed by Jo Thompson at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show 2014.
